For your consideration: Adolin, Evi, and Fashion
Consider: Evi moving from Rira to Alethkar and learning to cope with the new culture and all of the safehand nonsense. Then marrying the blackthorn and collecting and analyzing fashion folios to figure out how she can be a Good Vorin Wife while still trying to be true to herself.
Consider: Smol Adolin sitting with her, only half understanding, as she talks half to him and half to herself about balancing traditions and current fashion. And then when he shows interest - because if mom cares then so should he - she starts also getting the fashion folios for boys and young men and altering Adolin's clothes with ideas he likes from the folios.
Consider: Evi encouraging Adolin when he starts fashioning himself play armor out of the rockbud shells he finds laying around. Evi teaching smol Adolin knots and the very basics of sewing.
Consider: An older Adolin trying to follow his father’s example and getting into dueling. Adolin coming home with tears in his clothes from roughhousing and fighting his friends/rivals and Evi sitting him down and teaching him how to mend his clothes. Not just how to mend them, but how to do it in ways that make the mending look intentional and fashionable.
Consider: Evi at the war camps feeling like she is losing control of everything and her life is falling apart, but still making sure she is put together and trying to make sure her boy has his jacket because that's one of the few things she CAN still control .
Consider: After Evi’s death, Adolin seeking out the folios himself and growing closer to his tailor while he continues to improve his sewing skills because it's a connection he has to his mom that he doesn't want to lose.
Consider: Adolin taking the group to his tailor, not just because he is into fashion but because she filled something of a surrogate mother role for him after Evi died and he truly does trust her completely. And THEN in Shadesmar when he is feeling useless and helpless on the ship he sits down and sews himself a halfway decent outfit because, storm it, even if he can't control anything else, he can still control THIS and the process of the sewing reminds him of his mother's strength even when she felt helpless and that helps him keep holding himself together and doing what he can.
AHHHH I just discovered that somewhere in the convoluted process of getting the file from SoundRecorder to tumblr the first line got lost... Why didn't anyone say anything?! Corrected version coming shortly!
Corrected version can be found at http://kalynaanne.tumblr.com/post/111933243197/ok-completely-new-post-because-the-other-one because tumblr apparently won't let me fix this one *rolls eyes*
Ok. I figured that if I did the lullaby from Shadows, that meant I should also do Shallan's lullaby from Words of Radiance. I sat down and messed around with it until I came up with a tune I like, so, here, have another cosmere lullaby.

Potions: A Curious Tale - Adventure through an enchanted world where your wits are your greatest weapon and combat is not always the answer. - http://kck.st/1oIP0qQ
The leading creative director of this project is Renee Gittins. She was a frosh at Harvey Mudd my senior year so while I didn’t know her well, she and I have several mutual friends who are excited about this. From what I’ve seen on the kickstarter, this game looks like it has a lot of potential so I wanted to spread the word.
So... I was experimenting with the watercolor brushes in FreshPaint and playing around with ways to get different effects for skies...and then this happened... so here, have a happy playful skyeel flying through the sunbeams with its little fishy spren friends.
I'm working on a longer SA/HP story, but this notion got into my head. It won't fit in the larger story, but it also won't leave me alone:
In the Harry Potter universe Kaladin finds out about horcruxes when Syl passes through an object without appearing to harm it (maybe he is going on a rampage in the room of requirement which gave him things that he could destroy to relieve stress and he comes across the diadem?). When Shardblades pierce living things, they kill or cut off the soul rather than harming the physical shell, so it stands to reason that a shardblade passing through a horcrux would destroy the soul piece instead of the object. He eventually learns about the horcrux in Harry and has Syl manifest as a scalpel so he can remove the soul piece from Harry's scar.
So, I just had a probably crazy idea.
What if Nightblood isn't actually completely native to Nalthis? What if Nale is bringing it back home when he gives it to Szeth? Nightblood could have been a Rosharian Shardblade (Szeth doesn't seem to question it being a shardblade) that ended up on Nalthis. Then when Vashar and Shashara awakened it, the process roused the dead/trapped spren in the shardblade. From what we have seen, spren require an active bond with a human to remain sentient in the physical realm. Awakening would interact strangely with this resulting in the spren needing a steady supply of breath to remain active. This could provide an explanation for why it sucks the breath out of people (something that is never really explained in Warbreaker).
Nightblood's inability to fully understand what evil is and place it in a human context runs reasonably parallel to Pattern and Syl's attempts to understand the more abstract concepts of the human world. In Nightblood's case, the spren is still trapped in the sword and since it doesn't have a proper bond with a person, it is even harder for it to learn, so it can't progress as well or as quickly as Pattern and Syl.
The more I think about this the better it is working...
Ok, so after the skyeel came out yesterday, I decided to try a chull today. I'm not entirely happy with it, but here, have it anyway.
brightlord-kholin replied to your post: Hello and welcome to Cooking with Kaly...
I’ve gotta find a way to substitute the meat with a vegetarian fake meat thing because this looks delicious and I need to try it.
Hmmm... I would probably start by playing with a falafel recipe, but I could also see tempeh working well. Fake meat is also a decent interpretation of “soulcast meat,” so you can even claim you are sticking to canon :D. If you decide to try it, I would love to hear how it goes!
and I really, really want to introduce Vin, as we meet her right at the beginning of the story, to Lift. They wouldn't trust each other at all at first and for quite a while, but they would cautiously work together because it is better than the alternatives. It's possible they would see each other as rivals, but I want Vin to eventually take Lift under her wing like a little sister and they can be awesome magic scrawny teenage girl street thieves together. They could get up to so many ridiculous shenanigans and steal *everyone's* dinner...

Shallan: Daughter of rural minor noble family who goes on a journey and ends up in the court of the current political center of her world where she is slightly overwhelmed by everything and is trying to figure out how to save her family. In the process, she discovers a plot of some sort in the underworld of the society and create and alter-ego to infiltrate it.
Vin: Daughter of the underworld who finds herself in a new crew where the rules aren't quite what they used to be and she has to adapt as they plot to completely overthrow society. As part of this, she creates an alter-ego in which she infiltrates the court as a daughter of a rural minor noble family who is here to further her family's interests.
These girls are like two sides of the same fantastic coin and there are two things I really want to read:
1) Shallan and Vin curled up with coffee or tea or something trading infiltration stories and tips with Pattern providing commentary.
2) A scenario where these two are moving in the same court and are initially on opposite sides and they start getting suspicious of each other and eventually one confronts the other (I can't decide which way). After talking they discover that there is more going on than either realized and essentially end up forming their own faction.
So. I found my way to tumblr when I first discovered Brandon Sanderson's books. As a result, this, my main, was all Sanderson all the time. Tumblr won't let us change which blog is the main blog and my brain won't let me make this blog more general, so you'll find my general tumbling (currently including a great deal of Imperial Radch and Murderbot) on my "side blog" RithmatistKalyna.tumblr.com .
