Dry your tears and Get Angry
(brought to you by the 5th anniversary special)
it’s pretty common knowledge that flames and fire commonly represent anger. In the most recent Sanders Asides, Working Through Intrusive Thoughts, we get a glimpse of Logan’s eyes turning orange as he is consumed by anger. After the episode was posted, Thomas posted this on Twitter:
In the background of the 5th anniversary special, a certain parallel to this moment can be seen in the background.
A Patton figure with flames on top of it
We all know that Thomas and the team pay very close attention to details, even those in a unfocused background, and so a Patton figurine with flames on top of it with C!thomas being the only other figurine around it has to mean something
I haven't seen anyone talking about this, but I think that the orange side watching the others in the calendar is a neat little thing.

My theory is that the Orange side is only talking through Logan because he can't appear as long as Thomas has not acknowledged his existence and the contradiction he create with Logan: Janus first impersonated Patton, taking his form, voice and place in the room... and only appeared as himself after Logan asked Thomas if he wanted to learn something new about himself and spoke Janus' name. To appear Remus had to literally knock Roman unconscious and stand at his place in the room... and he started appearing after Logan tried to start a discussion about Thomas' intrusive thoughts and was repeatedly shushed by Patton Virgil and Thomas. I think they can't appear together at first because the oposite sides create a paradox in Thomas' personality which at first is hard to accept. He can be both a good, moral person (Patton) and also lie and be selfish sometime (Janus). He has a wonderful imagination (Roman) that also let him to imagine the worst possible situation (Remus). Logan represents order, logic, being calm and thinking before acting. The fact that we got a glimpse of the Orange side when Logan (and Thomas on his phone) lost his cool means to me that the Orange side is Thomas anger but also the impulsive actions he might do when he is angry. So in my opinion Logan's eyes glowing orange means that the Orange side represents anger and impulsiveness, that he is trying to come through but that he can't because Thomas has not yet accepted this part of himself and has a hard time balancing the idea that he can be logical and collected but also angry and short tempered sometimes.
Oh my gosh, you're completely right that both Janus and Remus have completed replaced other sides in the conversation before, most likely because they contradicted each other in Thomas' head. It would be reasonable to conclude one cannot act rationally and with anger at the same time. That's so cool.

I love the idea that the orange side was all docile and content to be hidden away by Janus, up until the very moment that Roman called Logan stupid. Then and only then did he decide to yank the reigns away from Logan, and throw down with Roman.
A paper ball was all he could manage before Janus had him back under wraps, but he wanted to do so much more.
And since then he's been kind of waiting, and watching Logan's feelings grow and grow more uncontained everytime something like that happens again.

do you have any songs that you feel correspond to mattie and flora? (any lucy dacus and/or boygenius is an added bonus)
Here’s an entire playlist I have going for them!!
But a Lucy Dacus song I always attach to them is triple dog dare 10000%
So y'all know how everyone is like “Hey, the new side is going to be Rage/Anger” and other types of shit like that. Well I was reading a fanfic were there was a new side and his name was Malice or Mal and Malice means like “Intent to do evil” and I was like “Hey, Malice could be spelled like Malus cause they kinda sound the same, what if that was the name of the new side haha” and then everything just stopped. And then I was like “Hey, I wonder if the name Malus has any sort of Greek or Roman meaning and I looked it up and…
WHAT
MALUS DOMESTICA: SCIENTIFIC NAME FOR APPLE TREE?
WHAT? Also, while looking up the word Malus it usually means something like “evil” and “apple” (Forbidden fruit?)
Also…
Anyway, it would pretty much fit with the thing that’s going on with c!Thomas right now. Him not wanting to be evil and shit.
ALSO?? USED BY VIRGIL? POET VIRGIL? ROMAN POET VIRGIL?
Listen, I might be off my rockers and I don’t really know if anyone has like, already connected these dots as well. But I feel like I might be onto something at least. Let me know what you think and what your theories are as well! Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.
P.S I might put more shit into this theory the more I come up with it but idk. I just really like this idea.
Edit 1: OOP, TIME FOR ANOTHER ADD ON, the name would fit with all the Dark Sides names ending in us.
Edit 2: So, while looking at the theory again and looking at sites and shit my thought process was “What if the animal trait that the orange side gets is a crab because of crab apples?” (Crabs are kinda orange I guess idfk this is fucking hilarious, Also, Malus also means “Mast of a ship” Pirate crab side?)
Edit 3: Apples, they got a sweet exterior but if you get to the middle of them they got poisonous seeds. On the surface, c!Thomas is a good person, but when you get down to it, everyone has some type of darkness in them whether they like it or not.
Edit 4: I’m back on my shit and still looking so fucking deep into this I am so sorry but it’s just so much fun to theorize, so what do crabs represent? Well, apparently according to this site https://symbolismandmetaphor.com/crab-symbolism-spirit-animal/ they represent:
Change and growth, adaptability, defensiveness, resilience, self-reliance and a journey. And is that not what c!Thomas is going through? A whole journey about change and growth.
