How do you think Markiplier's egos and Sanders Sides would interact with one another?
I am so glad you asked! (This is gonna be long)
For context, I imagine the reason they all met was some time-warp space fuckery, and right now the sides only chance at survival is kinda hanging out with the egos until something can get sorted.
As a whole, everything is relatively peaceful. Is there Drama? Of course. But nothing too terrible. Maybe a physical altercation on a bad day, but nothing that would get the sides thrown out.
Let's get the obvious out of the way: Remus and Wilford would hang out. Remus would be fascinated by how off the walls Wilford could get and Wilford wouldn’t think twice about Remus’s insane sentinces. He’s like that Marge meme of ‘I just think he’s neat!’ Remus doesn’t really care about the others, but he loves asking Google fucked-up questions because he’ll just answer. No hesitation. And Remus thinks that's hilarious. Also him and Heehoo have to be kept in separate rooms after the incident.
Patton and Stan would be IMMEDIATE FRIENDS. I’m talking first day of knowing each other, Patton has already made friendship bracelets, Stan makes sure Patton is taking care of himself, and they have a ‘dad club’ that consists of only them two. And they match! They have basically adopted the others as their own, even Patton sometimes able to help Dark. The only person he hasn’t ‘officially’ adopted is Yancy. Patton found out Yancy was a self-made orphan and decided ‘he’s just, like, a friend’ because Patton values his life. (But if we're getting into uncanon egos, Patton basically adopted Erek Derekson and Hates Derek Derekson. Like I fully believe if you put this two face-to-face, they would fight. Patton deserves to go ape-shit as a treat :) )
Logan doesn’t necessarily like Google, but out of all the others, he tolerates Google the most. They pretty much work together to try and get things figured out for everyone, and their relationship is strictly work colleagues. Until Logan found out Google also really likes space. Now he’s intrigued. Another ego that intrigues him are The Jims. Its because he’s heard of a side splitting, but not infinitely splitting. Now he’s begun keeping a tiny notebook on everything he’s learned about the others.
Roman is the most active when it comes to hanging out with the other egos. Him and Yancy definitely bond over their love of musicals and their (chosen) family. For Illinois, however, I feel like they’re either partners or rivals, no in-between. If they’re partners, total bond over their love of adventure and constant compliments. If rivals, very catty behavior from both of them about how self-absorbed the other is. Roman and Dark have a mutual hatred for each other. Roman thinks Dark is the Villain while Dark hates any idea of a hero after Actor. Also Roman found out Dark was twins that re-merged and gained a new fear. And finally, Actor manipulates the shit out of Roman, constantly planting ideas of how similar they are and talking about how everyone else abandoned them so he should stay vigilant.
Janus probably talks to the others the least, keeping his distance and watching from afar. However, he does enjoy learning about the others through the sides that talk to him. Whether it's frustrations or compliments, he takes a mental note of it all. The only person he doesn’t know about at all is Actor, and Roman would love to keep it that way. Janus also loves knocking the more egotistical egos down a peg with off-handed comments. Luckily, that hasn't wound up in anything bad. And while he does do this, he would protect them if it came down to it. While he doesn’t like them, others do. And they all have a use.
Virgil, surprisingly enough, found his way near Dark. I think Dark realizes Virgil’s ‘potential’ and keeps him nearby because if anyone were to stop Virgil, it would be Dark. And if anyone were to help Dark, it would be Virgil. (You know Virgil’s voice thing when he gets anxious? Yeah, I’m gonna be the first to assume it doesn’t stop there.) Virgil over time realizes Dark is a lot like Logan and Janus, meaning he's keeps to himself a lot and attempts to hide his emotions a lot. But because Virgil is near Dark, he’s gotten to know all the others (as well as Dark) very well. Virgil nearly sprinted towards Logan once he found out Heehoo had a scientific name. Also Virgil was the first Side to find out about Dark and Wilford’s Past, which was shocking for him because some of the other egos don’t know his past.
So that's my head canons, feel free to tell me your own, and I hope you have a good day!

This post will contain spoilers on A Heist with Markiplier
This is a headcanon theory so please do not think I am stating any of this as fact
I was able to complete AHWM on the first day it came out in about 4 to 5 hours. I wrote down every ending and posted about all of them as I went on Twitter. A week later Mark and Amy had their stream on Youtube talking about the behind the scenes and process of making the videos. I was able to watch almost all of it, I probably only missed around 20 minutes all together. So this is the kind of information I am working with as I write this down.
Now the theory I am proposing today is that Yancy actually becomes Illinois and Captain Magnum through paradoxical time shifts based on the similarities between them and how Mark has formed his previous characters in other works.
It all begins with the Scientist ending that is the canonical ending to AHWM. In this ending you receive the end credits and behind the scenes snippets. The Scientist, during her time on screen, explain that there is some type of anomaly out there causing all of these strange things to happen. These strange things include paranormal/supernatural phenomena, events overlapping, repeating, and skipping, and overall time manipulation. Taking the paranormal phenomenon out for a moment, let’s focus on the elements related to time. If say that no matter what time line you go through this artifact you have stolen, despite it’s content, could still be causing a temporal paradox as you are the one carrying it around. If so, my theory could totally be happening.
In Mark’s stream on the filming production he mentions how the first day was the jail house, so Yancy was the first character besides Mark himself he focused on (not yet called Yancy though). We could also see this as the secondary timeline a player should go through when diverging from the true ending. Now Yancy as a character is a showman, he is playing a game of pretend in an environment he feels comfortable in. As seen through his tough guy act even though he’s from Ohio. He admits that he has killed his parents, he has killed people he loved, and in one ending he even kills his fellow inmate (who he cares for) to stay in jain in order to remain inside this constructed delusion. So love is a big part of Yancy’s character and it’s actually apart of the other two as well.
While interacting with the character Illinois he mentions two key things, one of them being that all those who fall in love with him tragically die. Now this is obviously a reference to a popular film series we probably all now about, but what if they don’t actually die in these so called tragic ways? What if, Illinois is Yancy years in the future where he actually falls in love with you, decides to escape prison, and make up for his crimes by doing some good in the world? Yancy is able to find all the nooks and crannies of a location and you have experience in stealth, together you go all over the world looking for treasures to share with the world. Obviously, he’ll have to change his name since he escaped so why not go with another Midwestern state to stay true to home.
Yet, tragedy really does strike and you die somehow and Yancy, who is now Illinois, breaks down in grief. He no longer has the jail , a comfortable and familiar place, or you to cling to. You were still his connection back to that lifestyle of routine and control. Now, there is no control so he has to make it all over again as Illinois. Back to that first key point about how all his love interests die tragically, what if it’s all a fantasy? What if he has gone back to his old ways of killing those he loves? Illinois is actually killing all his lovers in a similar manner to how you died in order to keep this new delusion stable and concise. You don’t die; however, because you never actually did fall for him like you did with Yancy in another timeline.
Now what about that second key thing Illinois mentions, well that deals with Illinois’s love for treasure and adventure. It’s time to talk about how Illinois, once Yancy, becomes Captain Magnum! Illinois at this time is a serial killer that has now scoured the Earth, but he can’t keep it up forever. One day that boulder that follows him everywhere (probably possessed by all the lovers he killed) finally catches up to him and takes away his feet. This breaks him down even further into his own delusions as he can no longer go exploring the way he used to. He has to find another way to reconnect with you and now sees treasure as a means to do so. Killing lovers like you is no longer an option, but collecting treasures is. Illinois, now without feet, has to wear large log peg-legs to maintain his balance. decides that the best way to collect large amounts of treasure is to become a pirate. Thus, going back into his criminal roots.
However, this time he works to make no human connections and finds it easy to toss away his crew or neglect them. You can see his uncaring and awkward expression as his first mate cries and prays for his fallen friends. Additionally, Yancy is a showman at heart so he decides to create an eccentric character like Captain Magnum in order to appear dominant and in control. As the leader he can maintain his delusion himself unlike in the jail when the warden dictated his life or with his solitude and grief as Illinois. Yancy has always had a problem with authority, but now he is the authority. You could also say Captain Magnum is Yancy/Illinois’s magnum opus of a character and the final character.
In another timeline you do end up meeting Captain Magnum and as well takes a shine to you as Yancy and Illinois did (at least over time). If you pick the right path you end up as part of his crew and you can see the Captain start to develop some kind of feelings for you, but more as a parent since he is older at this time. He trusts you enough to pick which island to go explore next for more treasure and as you end up on the Island of Golden Treasure (a choice the Captain agrees with) you are sacrificed for his beloved treasure. Yet another person he loves killed by his hands.
This is the story I’ve put together around my theory/ headcanon. I’d love to know if the first character besides himself that Mark came up with was actually Prison Mark, because that would be amazing!
Either way I think the way Mark writes and develops these characters follows a pattern of looping. The idea that each character influences the other and that eventually a loop will be created. This can be seen in all of his fleshed out characters! Damien and Celine in a loop of revenge, the Colonel aka Warfstache in a loop with madness, Warfstache and the Detective in a loop of vengeance, the Colonel, Celine, and Damien in a loop of tragedy, etc. Mark’s characters become other characters, but at the same time retain parts of who they used to be.
So it’s not strange for this idea to be unintentionally true. I’m not saying it is, but it’s kind of interesting to notice. Nonetheless, I had a good time writing this theory and I hope it blows your minds even a little bit!
Thank you!
P.S. @markiplier is going to hate this.
A full color of Illinois drawing and some Yancy doodles since both are great boys
@markiplier
Illinois Jones, the famous adventurer and treasure hunter, is a jerk. You can tell by meeting him. However, when you get to know him, that fact is solidified and nailed to your brain. You, of course, knew this by heart and learned it every time your heart decided to beat for him. Even now, you watched as he flirted with one of the women in the hotel you two were staying in.
You, Miss (Y/n) (L/n), were his latest partner and a fellow explorer. Like Illinois, you enjoyed the thrill of the hunt and the rush of excitement when a treasure was found or put back in its long lost home. This was actually how you two had met.
It was a complete accident. You had found a rare treasure, a crystal monkey and were traveling to return it to its temple. As you entered the cave, a boulder rolled right past you, followed quickly by Illinois Jones himself. At first glance, he was just a random explorer, but after he introduced himself, your eyes widened.
At the time you had only heard about him, not seen any pictures or met him before. “It’s an honor to meet you sir, my name is (Y/n) (L/n).” He smirked and winked, making your face flush pink. “Nice to meet you, gorgeous. Now, what is a fine lady like you doing down here?”
“I’m an explorer like you, but not as well known. I’m here to try to return this crystal monkey to its home temple.” Illinois’s eyes had widened in surprise, seeing the rare and valuable artifact in the hands of another explorer. “You did your research then. The temple is around here somewhere. If you’d like, you can travel with me and I’ll help you get there. What do you say, m’lady?”
At the time, you were giddy with excitement and eagerly agreed to follow him. This led to the two of you being welcomed into monkey heaven and receiving a diamond and golden banana. (Illinois still doesn’t know that the “rock” he had received was a huge diamond. He gave it to you and you were able to put it away in a safe place for later.) After that, you parted ways and then met again, this time both of you coincidentally searching for the Jewel of Jatan, another rare artifact that historians would kill to get their hands on.
“Ah, you again. Don’t tell me you love me so much that you’re stalking me. Heh, not that I would mind.” You had blushed and rolled your eyes. “In your dreams. I’m searching for the Jewel of Jatan, what about you?” Illinois got closer, almost touching you as he spoke. “I am too. Let’s work together. No reason why a beauty like you should travel alone. What do you say, partner?” You were hooked. Together you found the jewel and credit was given to both of you in return. (Most of it went to Illinois as most people just thought you were his assistant. It did bother you a little, but you didn’t complain at the time.)
After that, you both became inseparable. You officially traveled with Illinois Jones all around the world, hunting for rare treasures all while you slowly fell in love with the handsome explorer despite his constant warnings not to. However, a person like him really put the concept of love to the test.
You watched him now, across the room, as he flirts openly with one of the ladies at the hotel you two were renting a room at. The woman blushes, giggling as he lift her chin up, giving her the same look a husband gives his wife. Your heart panged with jealousy and the food you ordered in the cafe section finally arrived. You quickly ate the meal, which seemed to lose its flavor as you struggled to hold back tears, and left, not bothering to give your partner another glance.
A half hour later, Illinois entered the room. “Heeeey sweetheart! You finished and left before I even ate my food. You feeling alright?” You didn’t want to talk to him. Your heart couldn’t take it. He walked over, kneeling in front of you, catching your gaze with his shining eyes. You looked away, and back at the book you were reading. Illinois forced the book down so you could see him.
“I was reading that.” You said bitterly, glaring at the explorer. “It’s not going anywhere.” He said gently, winking at you flirtatiously. “I don’t care. Let me read my book.”
“Why don’t you talk to me instead. I did ask a question, beautiful.”
“Y’know what? You wanna talk, fine let’s talk.” You closed the book and glared at him. “What is your problem?” Illinois seemed surprised at your outburst, but happy that he finally got all of your attention. “I was wondering why you left before we could eat together.” He said, standing up and moving so that he could sit down across from you.
“I was hungry and wasn’t gonna wait for you to stop flirting with that woman before I could eat. I like my dinner warm, thank you very much.”
“Oh, come on. I wasn’t talking with her that long.”
You glared at him, wanting to leave the room. “You spent the entire time after you ordered food talking to that lady. That was approximately 20 minutes. You were still with her when I finished eating, which was around 10 minutes. All together, that’s around half an hour, so yes, you were talking with her for a long time.” Illinois gave you a dismissive look. “So what? That’s perfectly fine! Nothing wrong with talking to a beautiful lady.”
That was your breaking point. “I’m done.” You stood up to leave. He did too, looking very confused. “What? What do you mean ‘I’m done.’?” You grabbed your backpack and began to put your belongings inside of it. “I’m done with your bull, I’m done with your flirting, I’m done with being your “partner”, and I’m done with you.” Your ex partner looked shocked. “W-what? Wait, what do you mean by that?”
You quickly finished and looked over at him. “I’m done with you playing with my emotions, Illinois Jones. Ever since we met you’ve been giving me mixed signals. You flirt with me, you flirt with another girl, you flirt with me, you flirt with another girl. I’m done! And I’m especially done with taking less than half credit for a discovery that I did half the work for.”
Illinois was trying to process all of this. You were leaving? “Now, let’s just talk this out okay? It’s just mindless harmless fun! I’m a flirty guy, it’s in my nature, it’s in my blood!”
“It’s not harmless. It’s very harmful, you’ve probably broken more hearts than you’ve ever kept! That lady that you were flirting with will probably be heartbroken when you leave without a trace!”
The fellow explorer rubbed his neck uncomfortably. “That lady.. She actually had a boyfriend already.”
“And that’s another thing! You never check to see if the girls you flirt with are in relationships! You’re absolutely despicable! When will you start realizing that the world doesn’t revolve around you and that you aren’t entitled to everything!”
Illinois didn’t say anything. He was shocked. You had never talked to him like this before. “(Y/n).. sweetheart, please, we’re partners we have to-”
“Don’t ‘sweetheart’ me! I’m not your sweetheart and I’m not your partner anymore. I hate you. I’m leaving, you’re on your own.” With that last sentence and with a shocked and hurting Illinois Jones reaching out for your retreating figure, you closed the door, quickly paying for your room and leaving.
Back with Illinois, he was devastated. He had just lost another partner. This time, you had just quit, not because the adventures were too scary, but because you suddenly hated him. The famous explorer placed his left hand over his heart. Why did it hurt so much?
He went over the argument in his head and shook his head. “No. I’m not gonna be upset over this. She’s just another girl. She doesn’t matter.” No matter how many times he said this to himself, he couldn’t bring himself to truly believe it.
Night fell soon enough and Illinois climbed into bed. “G’night, (Y/n).” He said softly, but there was no reply. ‘Oh.. that’s right.” He thought sadly, as he looked over at the empty bed beside his own. His heart felt like it was tearing itself in two as he laid down, looking away. “Just forget about her. She isn’t worth the tears.” He murmured to himself.
He hardly slept a wink that night.
The next morning he woke up exhausted and not well rested. He blamed it on the argument and (Y/n)’s hurtful words. Never mind that. Today was a new day and he had a new goal in mind. Search for the Lost City of Gold. He remembered (Y/n) talking about it, her gorgeous (e/c) eyes sparkling with excitement. Illinois remembered how he was instantly captivated by her eyes. She was so beautiful. When he called her gorgeous, he meant it. Every single word. When did she start to think otherwise?
Illinois began to enter a cave, no longer used to the sound of only one pair of footsteps resonating through the empty cavern. The farther he went in, the more he wanted to leave. He wanted to talk to someone. No, not someone, (Y/n). He wanted to hear her voice. He wanted to be near her, feel her presence and be comforted by her. He didn’t want to be alone anymore.
There, in the middle of the cave, Illinois Jones sat down and began to cry. He finally accepted everything that had happened and let himself learn the truth. It was all his fault. It was his fault that his partner, his darling (Y/n), had left. It was all his fault for making her feel the pain of constant betrayal. He always told his partners and others not to fall in love with him, but now he had gone and fallen in love with the person who now hated him. Everything had been his fault.
She was right. The world didn’t revolve around him and it never did.
When the last of his tears left his eyes, Illinois let out one final choked sob and stood up. He could feel the treasure nearby, but it didn’t seem nearly as exciting and important as it originally did. Illinois quickly left the cave with a new mission: Find (Y/n).
For the next few months, he began searching for his lost partner. He learned that she was finding artifacts, both rare and more common, without him, gaining full credit for the discoveries. Her words echoed in his head, “I’m especially done with taking less than half credit for a discovery that I did half the work for!” She was finally getting the credit she had always deserved.
He spent a night in a new hotel and there were some beautiful ladies there. ‘Why not have some fun?’ He thought, about to make his way over to them, when he remembered (Y/n)’s words. “It’s not harmless. It’s very harmful, you’ve probably broken more hearts than you’ve ever kept!” He leaves the girls alone, waiting for his food, alone at his table.
The girls came over to him on their own accord, beginning to flirt and fangirl over him. Normally, he would be elated and flirt back, but he found himself not really attracted to them. He made small talk and a few random compliments, but no flirting.
Soon, news came that the rising explorer extraordinaire (Y/n) (L/n) was in the area that Illinois recognized as the place that the two of them had fought. The place that his heart broke. He hopped on the first flight he could catch. He ran as fast as he could to the familiar hotel, the place that was rumored to be the temporary home to his darling.
Looking around, his eyes land on a familiar (h/c) female. His heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. “(Y/n)!” He called, moving through the crowd to see her, but stopping when a figure came over to her, handing her a drink. Another man, someone he had never seen before, was chatting, laughing with (Y/n). Illinois was annoyed and saddened by this, his jealousy turning to anger as the man became touchy with her, placing his hands on her hips and leaning forward.
Illinois snapped and wrapped his arms around his partner’s familiar frame. “Hands off my woman.”
The man looked at him in shock, and (Y/n) looked up at her ex partner in shock. “I-Illinois?” Said man took her hand and led her outside, leading the struggling female into an alley where he finally let her go, already missing her touch. “Illinois, what the hecc was that? Why are you even here?”
He couldn’t even really answer her question. He was just so relieved that she was there in the first place. There in front of him, where he could finally hold her, love her. He wrapped her in a tight hug, not wanting to let go. However, (Y/n) struggled against it and got free. “What are you doing here, Illinois?” She asked again and this time he had to answer.
“I missed you, darling! When I heard you were here, I came as fast as I could.”
(Y/n) glared and pressed a finger to his lips, which made his cheeks tint pink. “No no no. None of those nicknames. You need to stop, Illinois. I’m done with you. I’m not your partner anymore.”
Illinois grabbed her hand, holding it urgently. “Please, hear me out. I made a huge mistake the last time we saw each other. You were right. I was a selfish, and self absorbed jerk. I’ve hurt so many people just because I wanted attention. Worst of all, I hurt you, which is something I can’t forgive myself for. Please, forgive me. I want to be partners again.” (Y/n) shook her head, Illinois’s heart dropping.
“No. No, Illinois. It’s not as simple as that. I’m glad you apologized, but that won’t change anything. Being partners requires more than just apologies. There needs to be trust. I can’t trust you. I can’t let myself get hurt again.”
Illinois couldn’t hold himself back any longer. He pinned (Y/n) to the wall, kissing her on the lips.
(Y/n) was shocked and didn’t kiss back at first. Even after all this time, after all the heartbreak he had put her through, her cheeks still heated up and her heart felt like it was going to break out of her ribcage. After all this time, she still loved Illinois Jones. Her eyes fluttered close, finally kissing the man that captured her heart.
Illinois let out a small moan, loving the feeling of her lips on his. This was something he never thought would happen. He had fallen head over heels for someone, and that someone was his partner. His (Y/n).
When they pulled away, slightly out of breath, (Y/n) looked up at him. “Illinois..” His name left her lips as barely a whisper. “(Y/n).. I love you so much. Losing you was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. Please, come back. Be my partner again. I’ll never take more credit than I’m due. I won’t flirt with other people. I don’t care if you don’t love me back, just please.. come back to me.”
(Y/n)’s lips met his again and this time, his arms wrapped around her, leaning against her and the wall. “Illinois, I love you too..” she murmured, “that’s why I was so upset when you would flirt with other women. I couldn’t take it.”
“I’m so sorry, darling. Gosh I hate that I did that to you. I’ll never hurt you again. I’ll give up treasure hunting before I do.” (Y/n) laughed softly, “So… never?” Illinois leaned his forehead against her. “Maybe. It’s debatable. I gave up a hunt for the lost city of gold to find you. I never want to explore without you again. You’re the greatest treasure I could ever find, and I almost lost you forever.”
(Y/n) cupped his cheeks in her hands and gazed lovingly into his chocolate brown eyes. “You won’t have to worry about that anymore. As long as you never hurt me again, you won’t be alone again. I love you, Illinois.”
"I love you too, my treasure."
