Question for witches who don’t/can’t do divination:

What’s that look like?

I didn’t realize until recently how heavily I rely on divination in my practice. What does your practice look like without it? Whether as someone who’s done divination and stopped, or as someone who’s never done it.

Girls And Gays, It Took Me Foreeeeeveer To Finish This Piece. You May Not Remember, But I Actually Have

Girls and gays, it took me foreeeeeveer to finish this piece. You may not remember, but i actually have HH OC Palashka .And since she lived in Kyiv, the capital of all European paganism and witchcraft, during her time on Earth, I wanted to make something to show it.

To some of you who don't know, the big yellow bearded fella on the background is Perun. Perun is the most powerful pagan god in Kievan Rus, the ruler of Skyies, the lord of thunder and lightning, the son of the Bilobog, the "god above the gods"; later god-warrior, liberator and destroyer.

In combination with pagan notions of gods and Christian notions of saints, the god Perun was replaced by Elijah the Thunderer, who also conquered thunder and lightning (the days of these holidays coincided - July 20 in the old style). Some features of Perun were also inherited by Archangel Michael.

I found the runic translation of the infamous phrase "For the glory of Perun" ===> ᚹᚩ : ᛋᛚᚨᚹᚢ : ᛈᛖᚱᚢᚾᚨ

I love how the closer you look, the more graffiti appears— it gives the effect of being ancient and etched into the stone. Also very cool example of a lodestone, which would presumably(?) bring down the whole ceiling if it was removed. Idk architects correct me/inform me if I’m dead wrong about this

A norse runework starter pack!

Because runework is basically at the core of my craft, I use it all the time and I’m already more than familiar with it. Runework is super easy to incorporate into everyday life and it’s got a wide range of use so I truly recommend. It feels safe and reliable, and I don’t need to put a lot of time or focus on them. Now let’s get down to business to defeat the Huns.

Their story real quick:

So in His endless search for knowledge, Odin the Allfather hung Himself and was pierced by His own spear in order to be alone with Himself. He accepted no bread and no mead until He found the truth He’d been looking for. And He did: through the darkness of His own mind, Odin saw the runes and reached for them. It was told they were so powerful He could bring a man back from the dead using them.

The basics:

The runic alphabet, otherwise called Futhark. Because I’m a history nerd I try to use the “elder futhark” as much as possible, though there’s a new one going around that’s really popular too.

A Norse Runework Starter Pack!

The more complicated stuff:

A Norse Runework Starter Pack!
A Norse Runework Starter Pack!

Vegvisir (you’ll often find it depicted inside a rune circle like the second pic, especially on jewelry and pendants): Vegvisir is first and foremost a compass, and its name translated from Icelandic quite literally means “that which shows the way”. Historians speculate that its shape might be derived from old sailing wayfinders in Scandinavia, thus its association with the compass. It’s supposed to guide one’s way through the storm, according to a line in the Huld manuscript. (x, y)

A Norse Runework Starter Pack!

Aegishjalmur (Helm of Awe): Protection, protection, protection! That’s what it’s about. All of its branches are considered to be “guarding” the center, thus making it a major protection rune. Once you get the gist of it, it’s super easy to draw and useful. If you’re a fan of dragons like me, perhaps you know Fafnir’s invicibility was drawn from this rune, as stated in the Fáfnismál: The Helm of Awe | I wore before the sons of men | In defense of my treasure; | Amongst all, I alone was strong, | I thought to myself, | For I found no power a match for my own. (x, y)

Aight quick presentation for other complex runes:

A Norse Runework Starter Pack!

Now; How do I use runes? Where do I put them?

Draw them anywhere and everywere. I wouldn’t recommend painting a ten-feet inguz on the closest police station but there’s still tons of places where runes can be useful. I draw them inside my wrists and close to pulse points, as way of “pumping” them into my system, so to speak. I write them down to focus my intent during rituals, choosing the one/s I need most atm. In a similar way, I envision them during meditation to clarify my intent. I also use them to decorate altars or devotional art. If you’re a norse pagan like me, maybe look up what runes your main deities are associated with! Quick rundown:

Odin is usually othala or ansuz

I often see Freyja associated with fehu, but that’s also the case for most of the Aesir

Tyr with teiwaz

Thor with thurisaz or uruz; etc…

What about bind runes?

By definition and according to historical speculation, bind runes are futhark runes which were merged into a single glyph (sometimes by carving them all on a single straight line, like oghams). They were super rare back in the viking age but they’ve become popular in the last few years.

People create them according to their needs. This aspect makes bind runes extremely versatile and personal because you can set really specific intents for them. They’re not exactly like sigils, though: when it comes to sigils, feeling and instinct usually guide people’s creation process. As for futhark bind runes, they’re made using existing glyphs from this specific alphabet. Here’s a bunch of bind runes that have been going around, just to give you guys a few ideas of what they can look like:

✨ This is an extraordinary piece that combines the 432 Hz therapy sounds with the light forces that motivate and uplift the listener.

✨ You can breath and feel the light, even with your eyes closed, while you listen to this song, though we chose a beautiful sunrise above the Black Sea, that is marvellous to watch. In this scenery you can really resonate with the splendour of nature and the serenity transmitted  by the producer Truesathru.

✨This video intends to transport it's listeners to a Primeval time, to a time when the first lights ever touched the primordial waters on Earth.

I find that working one at a time is best, if you’re kinda busy, and tbh, runes are pretty easy to learn. Once you get the hang of runes, move on to tarot; it’s like paper runes!

Hope it was

Helpful ✨

So i feel like runes are calling my name and i want to learn about them... but im also still learning tarot and i have a long way to go.

Fellow witches, any advice? Should i study both at the same time or is it best if i learn tarot first and then runes? Whats your experience?

Thanks in advance, blessed be ♥

Y’all Asked For It So Y’all Gonna Get It! I’mma Start Off With The Barebones Essentials And Work

Y’all asked for it so y’all gonna get it! I’mma start off with the barebones essentials and work my way to basic definitions. Sit down on something comfy and get yourself your warm beverage of choice and maybe grab a notebook because here goes.

What are runes?

Runic alphabets have been around since about 150 AD and used as a writing system by a lot of Germanic languages. These systems were eventually phased out, slowly but surely, with the progressive Christianisation that started around 700-1100 AD. The three most commonly known (and used?) Are the Elder Futhark, the Younger Futhark and Futhorc.

Runes aren’t, themselves, broadly meant for divination, thought there are a few passages in the Eddas that mention Odin “finding” and using them.

Runen Bedeutung Gebo

Runen Bedeutung Gebo

Tormut's sword with runic inscription

Tormut's Sword With Runic Inscription

The sword was found in the village of Sebo, commune of Vik, province of Sogn og Fjordane in Norway, dating from the early 9th century. Stored at the Bergen Museum.

A notable feature is the runic inscription on the sword: oh卍muþ.

George Stevens believes that the name of the god Thor is encoded with the swastika symbol (in Iceland, the tradition has been preserved to call the swastika "Thor's hammer"), from which the personal name of the Viking Tormut ("Thor's courage") is formed. Thus the inscription reads: "Tormut owns (me)." On the other side of the blade is an ornamental ligature.

When it is the time to clean house!?

🔹1.If you bought a new apartment or built a house yourself, then purification is not required, but if someone lived in the apartment or house before you, then you need to conduct a ritual of cleaning the house to get rid of the negative information and energy accumulated by the previous owners. This procedure is carried out prior to your arrival. A prerequisite for the ritual of purification is the period of the new moon at night. In this case, you will get rid of the legacy of the previous owners in the form of negative and negative information.

🔹 2. During the period of the disease, no matter what the reasons provoked the disease. In this case, the cleansing ritual is performed after sunset and in two stages: during illness and after recovery.

🔹3. During the off-season, because it is at this time that the location of the main luminary and other celestial bodies bring many new opportunities into our lives, and the negative information accumulated in the home does not allow us to use them correctly. The cleansing of the house should be carried out on the last new moon of the ending season, on the first or second day of the coming cycle. According to the astronomical calendar, autumn begins on September 23, which is the day of the autumn equinox, and according to the same calendar, winter begins on the day of the winter solstice, on December 22.

Ritual for cleansing your home!

🔹 Place a small table or stool in the central part of the house. Cover it with a white tablecloth.

Put on it a small black plate, a metal cup, a crystal glass and a white candle.

Pour salt into a plate so that it forms a small hill.

Pour pure spring water into a glass. Light a candle.

Throw a few grains of incense or powdered juniper or thistle grass into a metal cup.

Sprinkle these incense with alcohol and set them on fire. Wait for the grass to start smoking.

🔹 Take a plate of salt and go around all the rooms of your house with it, scattering salt in every corner, repeating the spell:

"With the powers of the Earth, I cleanse this house

From everything that is in motion, in falling and in obscurity.

Return the bowl of salt to the table. Next, take a glass in your hands and go around with it all the rooms of your house, repeating the spell:

"By the powers of the air I purify this house

From everything stagnant, inert and motionless.

Take a white candle in your hands. Go around all the rooms with her, saying:

"With the powers of Fire, I purify this house

From everything dark, evil and bad.

The last cleansing for your home will be cleansing with water. Take a glass, go around all the rooms with it, spray water in all directions and say:

“With the powers of Water I cleanse this house

From everything impure, black and dirty.

Performing all these actions, you must imagine how the sacred flame burns all the negative energy accumulated in your house, how the air sprays, the earth displaces, and the water washes away everything negative and dangerous.

🔹After finishing the witchcraft, put out the candle and put all the items used in the ritual in a secluded place. They can no longer be used for anything.

Thanks to Velya, Runava and Gray angel!
